The BP engine isn’t a lightweight, TBH, iron block and all. It does make for a good block to boost provided you upgrade the internals and the transmission to handle anything north of 225hp.

Why even have 4 cylinders at all? Just have an LS instead

A LS V8 is no longer acceptable

The mazda (BP?) has all accesories, the LS does not. Look at the block/head width...

You know it’s an amazing thing when even non-car enthusiasts look at this picture and go “holy shit!” I show it to all my friends whenever I talk about the Chevy small block.

Those pictures illustrate exactly why the LS swap is so ubiquitous.

Yes but it’s not the accessories taking up space. Without them the Mazda would still be nearly the same width due to the intake manifold. Inlines are great for alot of things, being compact is not one.

You typically have more room for stuff up at the top then down between the framerails

True, but you also tend to have more room in the front. I’m sure the Mazda lump is smaller overall, but you have to admit the LS has a pretty good output for its size.

Way more realiable when run hard too/pushed indeed. 250hp and that mazda lump will probably start giving trouble. By then you’ll still have more throttle left in the LS...

Probably cheaper and easier to build up as well. While I probably wouldn’t do an ls swap myself given the choice, I see why people do. I just like to be a little different.

Most Formula Drift cars run LS or similar v8's because of the realiability when making power, something you just don’t have with a souped up smaller engine. I believe it was MotoIQ who did some articles on that.
